19th Century
1839
A Tennessee man, John Neely Bryan, surveyed the area and decided to establish a settlement near the three forks the Trinity River.
1842
After leaving the area for a while, John Neely Bryan returned and in 1842 convinced several families in at Bird’s Fort to join him.
1844
J. P. Dumas laid out a townsite comprising a half mile square of blocks and streets.
1846
Dallas County founded in 1846.
1852
First factory was established by a wagon making french immigrant named Maxime Guillot.
1856
Samuel Pryor was elected the first mayor of Dallas.
1860
A massive fire destroyed nearly all the businesses at estimated cost of over $300 000. The town of 700 people did not have a fire department.
1870
Population had reached 3000 thanks in part the the migration of freed slaves.
1872-1873
Two rail services made it to Dallas. The Houston and Texas Central and the Texas and Pacific.
1890
Most populous city in Texas in with 38,067 residents.
20th Century

Oak Cliff annexed after numerous proposals.
1908
