History of Lewisville
1844
Families of John and Augustus King migrated to the area.
1846
By 1846, 600 families arrived to what is now Denton County. Each family received 640 acres of land and bachelors received 320 acres.
1855
Basdeal Lewis laid out a town and named it after himself. The first Lewisville Post Office is established.
1875
The Dallas & Wichita Railroad reached one mile south of Lewisville.
1885
Greater Lewisville Community Theater was constructed on Main Street. It is the city’s oldest building.
1891
Lewisville Enterprise, the cities first newspaper was opened by Overton Littleton Hamilton.
Bonds were issued to begin the construction of Lewisville’s first public school.
1895
Fire destroyed some on the buildings on Main street.
1909
First National Bank of Lewisville is the site of the first bank robbery of $6500.
1925
With a population of 815 people, residents vote to incorporate and the Town Council holds its first meeting on March 16.
1954
After six years of construction Lewisville Dam was completed.
1963
Lewisville becomes one of the first cities in Texas to integrate it’s school system.
2010
Population of Lewisville reaches 95,290 in the 2010 census.
