What Personal Data We Collect and Why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form. Additionally, we collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to aid in spam detection.

An anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

We advise against uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) to the website. Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the website.

Cookies

When you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience, so you don’t need to refill your details for future comments. These cookies last one year.

Visiting our login page prompts a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close the browser.

Upon login, we set cookies to save your login info and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, while screen option cookies last a year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login active for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

Editing or publishing an article saves an additional cookie in your browser. This cookie, containing no personal data, simply shows the post ID of the article edited and expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). This content from other websites behaves as if the visitor has visited the source website directly.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Processing Payments

For purchases made on our site, we collect information related to the transaction. This includes your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information (including credit card numbers), email address, and phone number. This information is necessary for processing your payment, fulfilling your order, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations.

How Long We Retain Your Data

Comment data and its metadata are retained indefinitely for automatic recognition and approval of follow-up comments. User-registered data (if applicable) is stored in their user profile and can be seen, edited, or deleted by the user (username cannot be changed). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

Your Data Rights

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold, including any data provided by you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This excludes data we are obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments may be screened through an automated spam detection service.
