Illinois Avenue stands complete from the outside, marking the most visible phase yet of the shopping center’s redevelopment. The store remains listed among Target’s upcoming locations, but an exact opening date still hasn’t been confirmed.

By late 2025, exterior construction appears finished, with the parking layout and access drives newly paved. Work crews have cleared heavy equipment, and hiring has quietly begun, signaling that interior setup is in its final stretch. Earlier estimates suggested an August 2024 opening, but that date passed with no announcement. Based on current signs, the first quarter of 2026 is a realistic expectation, though not verified by Target.

Wynnewood Village has anchored the Oak Cliff area since the 1950s. The new Target occupies a long-underused section of the complex once surrounded by aging retail shells and empty asphalt. Redevelopment efforts have gradually reshaped the property into a denser, more accessible center, with several new tenants already open nearby. Location History
Before the Wynnewood shopping center was built, the area was mostly farmland. In the late 1940s construction began for the 820-acre Wynnewood community. Construction was complete by 1954 and the community also had new homes which ranged from $6,000 to $20,000.
