Back on September 16, 2022, we first reported that Target was planning to move into the former Orchard Supply Hardware building at Valley View Shopping Center. At that time, it was only an announcement, with an expected 2023 opening. The store officially opened on April 2, 2023, and more than two years later, it’s worth taking a look at how it has settled in.
Construction and Store Details
This location isn’t a full-sized Target. At about 40,000 square feet, it belongs to the company’s small-format lineup, focusing on essentials like groceries, health and beauty, household basics, and seasonal items. Clothing and electronics are stocked, but in a tighter setup than what shoppers would find at larger regional stores. Even with its smaller footprint, this Target gave Yorba Linda residents something new: the city’s first Target within its own limits, cutting down drives to Placentia or Brea.
Location History
The site has been through several changes over the years. In 2011, it hosted a crafts retailer before being converted into Orchard Supply Hardware. By 2015, Orchard was well established, but the chain shuttered in 2018. A 2021 street view shows the building sitting empty until Target’s arrival. The April 2023 opening marked a major turnaround for the Valley View Shopping Center, breathing life back into a property that had been dormant for years.
Community and Reception
Reviews suggest that Yorba Linda’s Target has carved out a steady niche. Google reviews sit around 4.2 stars, while Yelp averages 3.7. Shoppers consistently describe the store as clean, organized, and convenient, with praise for friendly staff and quick checkout. Criticism mostly revolves around the smaller size: fewer aisles, limited stock compared to full Targets, and occasional parking challenges in the shopping center.
Lasting Impact
Two years in, the Yorba Linda Target has accomplished what the city hoped for. It anchored Valley View Shopping Center, gave residents a reliable place for quick shopping, and reduced the need for out-of-town trips. While it may not have the depth of a larger store, it has become a steady part of the community’s retail fabric.
