Trader Joe’s opened a new store at 9224 Reseda Boulevard in Northridge, California, on July 21, 2025. The location now serves the surrounding community near California State University, Northridge.
From Farmland to Commercial Hub
Historic aerial imagery from the 1940s shows the site as agricultural land. Orchards and cultivated plots once covered this part of the San Fernando Valley.
By the 1980s, the property shifted to commercial use. A roughly 10,000-square-foot restaurant building occupied the site for decades, housing multiple Chinese buffet concepts, including China Olive Buffet and Gold Medal Buffet and Grill. The structure was demolished in 2022.
Store Opening and Current Status (2026)
Trader Joe’s opened at this location in July 2025 and is now fully operational. The store serves both Northridge residents and nearby CSUN students.
The project reflects a broader shift toward higher-demand retail replacing aging standalone buildings across the San Fernando Valley.
