Costco is preparing to open its first warehouse in Cumberland County, with an opening scheduled for October 2025. The project marks the first major development on this tract, which was farmland for decades. Plans include a 161,000-square-foot warehouse, more than 800 parking spaces, and a fuel station. The company confirmed the opening on its new locations page.
Work has continued through 2024 and 2025. Road upgrades are underway to handle traffic once the store opens. With this build, Costco expands its reach in central Pennsylvania, adding strong competition to Samโs Club and BJโs Wholesale.

Location
The store is rising along the busy Carlisle Pike corridor in Silver Spring Township. It sits across from Cumberland Valley High School and is designed with access from Hempt Road, Lexus Lane, and Roaring Fork Road. A new traffic signal at Hempt Road and Roaring Fork Road will help manage traffic, along with added turn lanes.
Historic aerials from HistoricAerials.com show the parcel as farmland in the 1950s, bordered by a two-lane Carlisle Pike. Over the decades, the corridor has been filled with development. The Costco build represents the first large-scale retail project on this site.
Company
Costco Wholesale is one of the worldโs largest membership warehouse chains. It is known for bulk groceries, electronics, and household goods. Many warehouses also feature fuel, optical care, and tire service. The Mechanicsburg store, at 6717 Carlisle Pike, will add to Costcoโs Pennsylvania network, which already includes Harrisburg, Lancaster, and King of Prussia. For residents of Cumberland County, it delivers a long-anticipated option on the Carlisle Pike.
