Crews continue work on the Frank J. Wood Bridge as the project moves closer to completion. The new crossing is expected to open to two-way traffic by the end of 2025. It replaces the historic 1932 truss bridge that has long connected Brunswick and Topsham over the Androscoggin River.
Construction Progress
MaineDOT manages the project with Cianbro Corporation as the contractor. Work has been underway since 2023, starting with foundations and early superstructure construction. By late 2024, cranes and barges lined the river, and crews began visible progress on the new alignment. Traffic is expected to shift onto the new span in late 2025. Crews will begin demolishing the current bridge in October 2025. In addition, new riverfront parks at both ends are set to open in early 2026.

The bridge carries U.S. Route 201 and serves as a key link between Brunswick and Topsham. As a result, improvements will benefit both commuters and local businesses. The new design features wider lanes and updated approaches. It will also provide safer access for pedestrians and cyclists.
