A new ALDI store is coming to 827 West Central Avenue, part of the long-standing Midway Plaza at the intersection of State Route 73 and South Pioneer Boulevard. While no grand opening date has been set, the store is officially listed as “coming soon” on ALDI’s website. Once complete, it will occupy roughly 21,000 square feet on the west end of the plaza, where construction activity is already visible from above.
This addition is part of a broader revitalization of the shopping center, which includes a Planet Fitness and a Seven Brew Coffee. The move marks another expansion for ALDI across Ohio as the chain continues to invest in mid-size suburbs.

From Farmland to Retail Hub
Back in 1956, this stretch of West Central Avenue was mostly farmland. Historic aerial photos show wide, undeveloped tracts along the south side of the road, with just a few scattered homes to the north. That all changed in 1975, when Midway Plaza was built across a nearly 30-acre site, bringing over 120,000 square feet of retail space to the area.
Since then, the property has seen decades of steady use and adaptation. The new ALDI will replace part of a former fitness center on the plaza’s west side—now the most active area in terms of redevelopment.
About ALDI
Founded in Germany in 1946, ALDI has grown into one of the world’s largest discount grocery chains, known for its low prices, private-label products, and no-frills stores. The company operates over 2,000 locations in the U.S., with dozens more in development.
The Springboro location will be a typical mid-size format, part of the chain’s push into suburban markets with growing populations. As with other locations, it’s expected to offer curbside pickup, self-checkouts, and ALDI’s signature rotating seasonal deals.
