Construction has begun on Sacramento, California’s Republic FC’s new stadium at the Railyards, reshaping one of Sacramento’s most historic sites. The soccer-specific venue broke ground in August 2025 and is expected to open for the 2027 season.
Republic FC competes in the USL Championship, the second tier of U.S. soccer, but the new venue arrives with the scale and permanence of a big-league stadium.
Construction of a New Home
The stadium is designed by MANICA Architecture with project management by Machete Group. It will seat 12,000 fans, with expansion options available. The design features open plazas, premium suites, and an intimate soccer setting.

Republic FC will leave Heart Health Park at Cal Expo, its home since 2014. The new downtown location provides direct access to Amtrak and light rail, pulling the team closer to Sacramento’s core.
From Rail Yard to Stadium Site
The stadium rises on land once dominated by the Southern Pacific Railyards. By the 1990s, most tracks were gone, and the property sat vacant.
Google Earth imagery from 1993 shows the site already cleared of rail lines. By the 2000s, the land appeared graded and unused. Today, the parcel is active again, with construction equipment preparing the ground for Sacramento’s new soccer venue.

A Step Forward for Republic FC
The privately financed project anchors Republic FC’s long-term future while boosting downtown’s entertainment options. When it opens in 2027, the stadium will stand as both a sports hub and a symbol of Sacramento’s reinvention.
