SprawlTag first covered the new Irving H-E-B on April 15, 2025, when construction was underway at the former Fry’s Electronics site in North Irving. The store is now scheduled to open on June 17, 2026, at 2351 W. Interstate Highway 635. The site sits near I-635 and Olympus Boulevard, in the Las Colinas area.
The images below use Google Maps and Google Earth views to show how the property changed over time. The timeline starts in 2001, when the area still had open land beside LBJ Freeway.
By 2002, The Home Depot had appeared nearby. Fry’s Electronics followed by 2005, giving the site its long big-box retail identity. Recent views show the property shifting again, this time toward one of H-E-B’s newest North Texas stores.
In February 2001, the future Irving H-E-B site still looked like open land beside LBJ Freeway. The freeway and road ramps were already in place, but the large retail buildout had not arrived yet. This image captures the site just before the former Fry’s Electronics era began changing this stretch into a major North Irving shopping area.
By March 2002, The Home Depot had appeared beside LBJ Freeway, marking the start of the area’s big-box retail buildout. The future H-E-B site was still mostly open land next door, with Olympus Boulevard and the freeway ramps beginning to frame the property. This image shows the early retail phase before Fry’s Electronics and the later H-E-B project changed the site again.
March 2005: Fry’s Electronics had joined The Home Depot along LBJ Freeway, pushing the area deeper into its big-box retail phase. The future H-E-B site now had a large electronics store, a broad parking lot, and freeway visibility. The open land around Olympus Boulevard still left room for more growth, but the old rural edge was clearly disappearing.
By April 2025, the former Fry’s Electronics site had entered its H-E-B construction phase. The old big-box building was gone, and the property had become a large cleared pad beside LBJ Freeway. Around it, The Home Depot, nearby retail, homes, and busy roads show how much this North Irving corner had filled in since the early 2000s.
Seen from LBJ Freeway in October 2025, the new Irving H-E-B was already well into vertical construction. Steel framing, tall wall panels, dirt piles, equipment, and workers show the store taking shape beside the former Fry’s Electronics building. This view brings the timeline close to the finish line, with the site moving from big-box electronics history toward its next role as a North Irving grocery destination.
