New Dairy Queen Planned For Stephenville, Texas: This is The Site

A new Dairy Queen may be on the way to 703 E South Loop in Stephenville, Texas. A recent construction filing details plans for a freestanding quick-service restaurant on the site. The project would total 3,167 square feet and is expected to begin in May 2025, with completion targeted for November 2025. No official announcement has been made by Dairy Queen at this time.

The lot sits near the intersection of U.S. Route 377 and S. Drew Avenue, just west of Bruner Chrysler and across from Stephenville Trailers. Itโ€™s surrounded by a mix of businesses and residential streets, with nearby landmarks including J&D Golf Land and the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.

The Site Has Seen Many Changes

Historic aerials show that this corner of the South Loop has evolved steadily over the decades. In 1958, the area was largely open land, divided into residential plots with only scattered development. By 1983, a structure was visible on the siteโ€”possibly a single-level commercial buildingโ€”indicating that the land had shifted from residential or agricultural use to retail or service-oriented development.

The lot at 703 E South Loop sat empty and overgrown in 2023, showing no visible signs of recent development.

In recent years, the lot appears to have been cleared, with no major structures remaining. It currently resembles a grassy or open parcel, leaving room for potential redevelopment.
