A new Sprouts Farmers Market is opening at 23046 State Road 54, Lutz, FL 33549 on Friday, May 16, 2025. The store is part of the redevelopment of the Willow Bend Towne Centre, a plaza that previously housed LA Fitness and other retailers. According to Sprouts.com, the grand opening weekend will include product tastings, giveaways, and a promotional discount.
High-Traffic Location With a Long Retail History
The site sits on the south side of State Road 54, just east of US-41. This section of Lutz has become a dense commercial zone, with grocery, retail, fitness, and dining options drawing steady local traffic. The new Sprouts will anchor the remodeled plaza, along with an upcoming Michaels store, according to developer Hawkins Companies.
The store is being built into a portion of the former LA Fitness building. The rest of the plaza remains active with long-standing tenants, though major upgrades have taken place in recent months.
Decades of Land Transformation
Aerial imagery from 1957 reveals that this property was once surrounded by citrus groves. Some structural outlines are visible at the site even then, suggesting early agricultural infrastructure.
Over time, the area gradually transitioned from farmland to commercial development. A large retail center took form by the early 2000s, eventually housing LA Fitness by at least 2018. Photos from that year show the gym as a central anchor with a bustling parking lot.
By 2024, the same structure was vacant. The plaza showed signs of wear and limited occupancy, with LA Fitness signage removed. Construction began soon after to reconfigure the space for new tenants like Sprouts and Michaels.
The current work includes interior remodeling, exterior updates, and parking lot improvements to support the modernized retail lineup.
Sprouts Brings a New Anchor to a Familiar Center
Sprouts Farmers Market is known for its focus on fresh, organic, and natural foods. The new 26,000-square-foot Lutz location will join over 400 stores across the U.S.
Opening weekend events include:
- Ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:45 a.m. on May 16.
- Doors open at 7:00 a.m. with giveaways for the first 200–400 customers.
- In-store tastings and outdoor pop-up festivities all weekend.
