After fourteen months of operation, the Department of Wonder, an entertainment venue in Sugar Land Town Square, closed its doors on December 30, 2023. The 10,000-square-foot space combined interactive theater with virtual reality, offering guests a unique experience of unraveling stories and solving puzzles.
In December 2024, Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão filed a project with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. It plans to open a new location in Sugar Land Town Square, occupying the former Department of Wonder space. Construction is expected to begin in January 2025 and conclude by August 2025, with renovations estimated at $1.8 million.
\Fogo de Chão, founded in Southern Brazil in 1979, specializes in Southern Brazilian churrasco-style grilling. The restaurant is known for skewered meats which are cooked over an open flame. The menu features a variety of meats, seafood, small plates, and a seasonal market table with fresh salads, cheeses, and antipasto. The Sugar Land location will join other Houston-area Fogo de Chão restaurants in The Woodlands, Friendswood, and Houston’s Westheimer Road.
Historically, aerial images reveal that the site of Sugar Land Town Square was undeveloped land before its transformation into a bustling urban center. The evolution from open land to a vibrant town square reflects Sugar Land’s growth and development over the years.
