The neighborhood at 2563 S. Raul Longoria Rd. in Edinburg, Texas, has seen some growth and change over the years. In a region that was once sprawling farmland as recently as the late 1990s, a new Sonic Drive-In will revitalize the area, replacing the closed Dickie’s Car Wash that has stood at this site since 2007.
From Fields to Neighborhoods
The aerial images from 1995 reveal a vast expanse of farmland where the site now lies. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that the landscape began to shift, with residential developments emerging to accommodate the city’s growing population. By 2007, the car wash had established itself as a local landmark, serving the area for over a decade before its closure.
A Fresh Start with Sonic
The upcoming Sonic Drive-In promises to continue this pattern of transformation. Scheduled to begin construction November 2024, and aiming for completion by February 2025, this 1,568-square-foot drive-thru-only location will offer a new convenience for Edinburg’s residents. Like some Sonic locations, this one will focus exclusively on drive-thru service, omitting interior public access or seating—ideal for customers seeking a quick and easy stop for food on the go.
