A New Buc-ee’s is Coming to this Ohio Highway Exit

It’s happening. After a pause in late 2024, building activity has resumed at the 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s near the northeast corner of Interstate 70 and State Route 235. The Texas-based travel center is setting up its first Ohio outpost here, aiming for an opening in 2026. By May 2025, social media videos revealed roof supports going up. Locals now have a clear sign that real progress is being made.

A Look at the Site’s History

The area that’s now under construction was still farmland in the 1990s. Aerial imagery from 1994 shows wide open fields, with no sign of industrial development nearby. Over time, this started to change. Warehouses and logistics centers filled in around the lot, while I-70’s interchange expanded to handle more traffic.

In 1994, the future Buc-ee’s site was just farmland. This aerial image shows the untouched parcel northeast of the I-70 and OH-235 interchange, long before construction plans took shape.

Even by the early 2020s, the parcel at 8000 State Route 235 remained untouched. It was a rare green pocket in an increasingly developed corridor. That changed in August 2024 when Buc-ee’s officially broke ground. However, a legal fight with Clark County over sewer and water service caused a pause just months later. That dispute was resolved by December, and construction teams returned in early 2025.

What to Expect When It Opens

Once finished, the Huber Heights Buc-ee’s will feature:

  • 100 gas pumps
  • 24 electric vehicle charging stations
  • A 74,000-square-foot retail store
  • Parking for more than 700 vehicles

This project is designed for high traffic volumes. Its location—between I-75 and I-675—makes it a prime stop for travelers and truckers alike. Buc-ee’s originally hoped to open by December 2025. Due to the utility-related delay, the launch is now expected around April 2026, though that could still shift.

Meanwhile, recent updates on Facebook—including this video from May 24—show trusses and structural frames being installed. It’s no longer just a patch of grass. Buc-ee’s is on its way to changing the landscape of this highway exit for good.
