A five-acre property in Baldwin Village, Los Angeles, is being redeveloped into a mixed-use complex with 800 apartments and a Costco-anchored retail center. Designed by AO architects, the six-story building will feature courtyards, a rooftop pool, fitness areas, and community gardens.
Utilizing Transit Oriented Development incentives, 23% of the units—184 apartments—will be designated as low-income housing. Modular construction will speed up progress, with completion expected within two years. The new Costco store will offer essential services and create up to 400 jobs, marking the first of its kind in South LA.
Aerial images from 1948 suggest the site may have been used as a dumping ground. By 1964, a building had been constructed, which later served as an AT&T Field Technician’s office.
