This Planned Philadelphia Target Was Cancelled: What Happened?

Philadelphia will no longer have a new Target on Chestnut Street and 37th street. The Target was supposed to open next to the 14-story International House building in West Philly which was renamed The Mason. The building served mostly as a residential center for international students in nearby schools, University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University.

International House was completed in 1970 and designed by Philadelphia’s Bower & Fradley (BLT Architects). The building was designated as historic by Philadelphia’s Historical Commission. Alterra Property Group redeveloped the property and Target would have been in the plaza at the Chestnut Street end of the building.

Target decided to cancel its plans for the new store on Chestnut Street and 37th Street due to a routine reassessment of its current projects. The company stated that they periodically evaluate their planned projects and concluded that they would not pursue the store at this location.
