Valley View Mall, once a thriving shopping destination, opened its doors in 1973. Over the years, it hosted major anchor stores like Bloomingdale’s, JC Penney, Macy’s, Dillard’s, and Sears. The mall saw its peak in the 80s but began to decline in the 90s, marked by the closure of Bloomingdale’s. Changing demographics further accelerated its downturn.
In 2012, Beck Ventures acquired the property, and demolition began in 2016. The AMC Theater, which continued to operate amid the demolition, has now also been demolished. Beck Ventures planned to transform the site into the Dallas Midtown Mixed-Use Neighborhood, featuring office spaces, upscale residences, and retail areas.
The redevelopment project, estimated to cost around $2 billion, aimed to create a vibrant community with parks, luxury hotels, restaurants, and bike trails. Despite initial plans to start construction in 2021, the project has faced delays. As of 2024, the long-awaited development has yet to begin, keeping the community in anticipation of what the future holds for this historic site.
