From there, the views follow the site through closure, construction, and the completed Buc-ee’s travel center seen today. It is a clear example of how one interstate corner in Crossville shifted from a modest roadside stop into a much larger travel-center destination.
In January 2008, the future Buc-ee’s site was still a much smaller roadside stop along Genesis Road. The old Shell station, open pavement, and highway-oriented businesses show what this corner looked like before Buc-ee’s brought a much larger travel-center footprint to the Interstate 40 interchange.
By April 2019, the old Shell station had lost its branding and looked mostly inactive along Genesis Road. The empty canopy, cracked pavement, boarded windows, and plain white building make the site feel like it was waiting for a larger change, which came when Buc-ee’s replaced this smaller roadside stop with a much bigger travel-center footprint.
By September 2021, Buc-ee’s construction was well underway along Genesis Road. The old Shell station had been cleared, and the site had opened into a much larger construction zone. The scale difference is the story here: a small gas station corner was being replaced by a full travel center built for Interstate 40 traffic.
By April 2024, Buc-ee’s had fully replaced the old roadside gas station with a massive travel-center site built for Interstate 40 traffic. The wide fueling area, large paved frontage, fresh landscaping, and open grass along Genesis Road show how dramatically the corner changed from the smaller Shell stop seen in 2008 and 2019.
