A new Costco is coming to The Colony, Texas, with an opening scheduled for October 16, 2026. The roughly 155,000-square-foot warehouse is rising along the eastern edge of Grandscape, directly beside the Plano city line. Plans also include a fuel facility and nearly 900 parking spaces.
The property remained largely undeveloped for years while highways, neighborhoods, businesses, and Grandscape grew around it. The Google Earth images below show that transformation, beginning with open land in 2001 and ending with the heavily graded Costco site in December 2025.
February 2001
The future Costco property was still almost entirely open in February 2001. Grass, brush, and scattered trees covered the large tract. Spring Creek Parkway already bordered the eastern side, while the rail corridor crossed the western portion. Very little nearby development resembled the dense commercial district seen today. The land itself showed no sign of the major retail project still decades away.
October 2007
Development was beginning to surround the property by October 2007. Major work along State Highway 121 was changing the northern edge of the area. New residential construction was also appearing immediately south of the future Costco site. Despite those changes, the tract remained largely untouched and covered with vegetation. Growth was closing in, but this sizable piece of land stayed open.
November 2014
The landscape changed dramatically by November 2014. Large sections of the property had been cleared, graded, and reshaped by extensive earthwork. New infrastructure also crossed portions of land that had remained brush-covered only a few years earlier. The broader Grandscape era was beginning to transform this part of The Colony. Costco was not yet planned here, but the old undeveloped landscape was clearly disappearing.
December 2025
By December 2025, the future Costco site looked completely different from the open tract seen in 2001. Most vegetation had been removed, and grading covered much of the property. Roads and major commercial development now surrounded land that had remained vacant through decades of regional growth. Costco broke ground during December 2025, beginning the property’s next major transformation. The new warehouse is scheduled to open in October 2026.
