The much-anticipated Buc-ee’s Travel Center in San Marcos, Texas, is finally taking shape. Construction officially kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony held on January 29, 2025. The project is located at the southwest corner of Interstate 35 and Yarrington Road, a rapidly growing corridor connecting Austin and San Antonio.
Spanning 74,000 square feet, this Buc-ee’s will feature 128 fueling stations designed to accommodate high volumes of travelers. Once complete, the site is expected to create more than 200 full-time jobs, providing a major boost to the San Marcos economy and reinforcing Buc-ee’s reputation for large-scale operations.

Site Evolution at Interstate 35 and Yarrington Road
Historically, this section of San Marcos remained mostly rural well into the early 2000s, with wide open fields and a few scattered industrial buildings. Aerial imagery from that time reveals sparse development, with little indication of the bustling activity seen today.
Over the past two decades, steady population growth has fueled the rise of warehouses, residential neighborhoods, and retail centers along this stretch of I-35. The Buc-ee’s project symbolizes the transformation, turning what was once empty land into a busy commercial destination.
Construction Progress and Opening Timeline
Construction activity is well underway as of April 2025, with visible site grading, foundation preparation, and heavy machinery working daily. Crews appear focused on laying critical infrastructure ahead of expected structural framing later this year.
According to MySanAntonio, Buc-ee’s plans to open its San Marcos location on May 26, 2026. Once completed, this massive travel center will offer travelers a convenient stop between two major Texas cities, adding another landmark to the region’s growing landscape.
