New ALDI Takes Over This Corner in Americus, Georgia

A brand-new ALDI is setting up shop at 1208 Crawford Street in Americus, Georgia. The store is taking over the space once home to Harvey’s Supermarket. The building opened in 2008 and is getting a full refresh with a smaller layout and updated systems. The location already shows up on ALDIโ€™s official store finder as โ€œcoming soon.โ€ Itโ€™s not open yet, but the building is active again with construction underway.

Same Corner, New Groceries

The store sits in a busy area near East Jefferson Street and GA-49. It shares a plaza with other familiar spots like Pizza Hut, AT&T, and Ming Garden. The shopping center is surrounded by fast food, retail, and Americusโ€™ main hospital. Plans call for renovations instead of a full rebuild. Crews are working on roof repairs, plumbing, and layout changes. Itโ€™s part of ALDIโ€™s wider expansion across Georgia, bringing new stores to smaller towns.

The Site Over the Years

Back in 1972, the property was mostly woods and scattered homes. That stayed true through the early 1980s. By 2007, development had picked up, and the Harveys building appeared soon after. Now the space is getting new life. When ALDI opens, the spot will once again serve as a go-to grocery stop for Americus residents.
