A new ALDI store is taking shape at 1115 York Road in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Though originally expected to open in April 2025, construction appears to still be underway. ALDI has not yet announced an official opening date, but its website confirms that this location is โcoming soon.โ
The store anchors a new mixed-use development in Straban Township known as the Reserve at Rock Creek. The project includes a 22,000-square-foot ALDI, multiple retail pads, and a 226-unit luxury apartment complex south of the store. The site sits just east of a GIANT grocery store and south of Walmart, positioning it well within Gettysburgโs growing commercial zone.
From mobile homes to modern retail
Aerial photos from 1994 show that the site was once home to a wooded area with a mobile home park. The location sat just off the Lincoln Highway (U.S. 30), which remained lightly developed at the time. By 2007, Walmart and GIANT had already been built, but the mobile homes were still in place near the future ALDI parcel. Over the past two decades, the area has transformed from a quiet residential stretch into a dense retail corridor.
By 2025, the mobile homes were gone, and construction had cleared the way for new retail pads, parking, and infrastructure. The change is striking: from trailer roofs to traffic signals and commercial signage in less than a generation.

What to know about ALDI
Founded in Germany in 1961, ALDI opened its first U.S. store in 1976. The company now operates over 2,000 locations across the country. Known for its low prices, private-label goods, and no-frills shopping experience, ALDI has continued expanding into both urban and suburban markets. In Pennsylvania, the brand is already well established, but the Gettysburg location fills a gap between nearby stores in Hanover and Chambersburg.
ALDIโs lease at this site spans 20 years, with scheduled rent increases beginning in the second decade of the term. Its placement on York Road gives the chain visibility in a high-traffic retail district that continues to attract new development.
