A New Target Store Will Rise Just Outside Longmont, Colorado

Target is opening a new store near Longmont, in the town of Firestone. The site is located at 4358 City Centre Road. It sits west of The Home Depot and just south of Firestone Boulevard. According to the Town of Firestone, the building will be about 127,000 square feet. The store will occupy an 11-acre site, approved by the town in late 2024. Construction is expected to begin sometime this year.

The Target will join a growing cluster of businesses near I-25 and Colorado Highway 119. Nearby stores include Walmart, Murphy USA, and 7 Brew Coffee. Restaurants such as Jersey Mikeโ€™s and Good Times Burgers are across the street. The location gives residents of Firestone, Frederick, and northern Longmont easy access via major roads and the interstate.


From Farmland to Freeways: A Look at the Siteโ€™s History

Back in 1999, this area was mostly open farmland. Aerial images show rectangular crop fields and dirt paths. There were no major roads or buildings in the area. For years, the land remained untouched despite growth in nearby cities. Eventually, new development reached this part of Weld County.

Today, that farmland has turned into a busy commercial zone. City Centre Road and Jake Jabs Boulevard now cross what was once an empty field. On the east side, The Home Depot anchors a large shopping area. Now, the western lot will welcome a major Target store. This shift from crops to commerce took more than two decades.

In 1999, the future Target site in Firestone was still open farmland with no visible roads or retail development.

Targetโ€™s Growth and What It Means for Firestone

Target continues to expand across Coloradoโ€™s Front Range. The Firestone location fills a retail gap along I-25 between Thornton, Loveland, and Boulder. With steady growth in local population, the area was a natural fit. The store will bring more convenience to residents while boosting regional traffic.

In November 2024, Firestoneโ€™s Board of Trustees approved a deal with Target. That agreement gave the company the green light to purchase the land and move forward. Once open, the store is expected to bring new jobs and sales tax revenue.
