Development Area at NC-55 and Ralph Stephens Road

The likely site sits at the southwest corner of NC-55 and Ralph Stephens Road, just north of the existing Lowe’s. A wooded lot remains undeveloped here, bordered by established businesses like ALDI and IHOP to the northwest, and residential neighborhoods to the south.

Historical satellite imagery shows the area was farmland in the early 2000s. Development accelerated by 2017, and by 2024, the surrounding retail infrastructure had taken shape, with only the wooded Wegmans parcel untouched.

In 2002, the same site was part of a large farming area with few nearby homes or businesses.

The future Wegmans site in Holly Springs remains undeveloped as of late 2024. Lowe’s and other retailers surround the area.

Wegmans Growth in North Carolina

Wegmans, a family-owned chain based in New York, opened its first North Carolina store in Raleigh in 2019. The Holly Springs location would become its sixth in the state. The company is known for its large format stores, in-house dining options, and broad grocery selection.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 with an opening sometime in 2027, according to company timelines.
