Construction is in full swing on a new Walmart Neighborhood Market at 6275 U.S. Highway 90 in Milton, Florida. This 57,000-square-foot grocery store is expected to open in summer 2025 and will bring around 100 new jobs to the area. The project marks a new chapter for Parkmore Plaza Shopping Center—an aging retail site that’s been due for a reboot.
From Bealls to Bulldozers: A Quick Look Back
Parkmore Plaza was built in 1986 and has been a steady shopping hub in Milton for decades. For years, its most visible anchor was the Bealls department store. Street View imagery from 2016 shows Bealls operating with a healthy flow of customer traffic. However, that changed in 2020.
Bealls was part of the Stage Stores group, which filed for bankruptcy in May 2020 after years of declining sales. That led to the closure of hundreds of stores, including this one. The building sat empty in recent years, visible in aerial photos as recently as mid-2023.
After Santa Rosa County approved demolition plans in January 2024, crews cleared the site to make way for Walmart’s new store. It’s part of a larger effort to breathe new life into the shopping center and better serve growing demand in the area.

A New Era: Walmart’s Expansion and What It Means
Walmart is rolling out more Neighborhood Market stores nationwide, and Milton is one of the newest sites on the list. This location will offer a full grocery selection, pharmacy, and updated store layout as part of Walmart’s “Store of the Future” initiative.
This isn’t the only new Walmart in the region either. A second Neighborhood Market is planned just up the road in Pace, Florida. Together, these additions signal Walmart’s bet on northwest Florida’s population growth and evolving shopping needs.
For Parkmore Plaza, it’s a big win. The new Walmart will anchor the center alongside existing tenants like Big Lots, Cato, and UPS. Redevelopment efforts are already visible, with new signage, access upgrades, and a clear shift in momentum after years of dormancy.
