The 72-story Bank of America Tower at 901 Main Street in downtown Dallas is the tallest building in the city. Construction began in 1983 on a site that had been a parking lot for a few years and was completed in 1985. The original plan called for two towers with pyramid-style roofs. The second tower was supposed to be built across Main Street, where Civic Garden is located today.
The plan also included a 600-room hotel and cladding that resembled a Rolex watch. However, those plans were scrapped due to negative changes in the banking and oil industries. Plans for the roof were also scrapped due to FAA regulations since Love Field is nearby.

Five networks use the top two floors for transmission purposes. The tower stands out at night thanks to its multi-colored LED lighting, leading some to call the building the “Green Giant.” Original plans for the development initially called it Dallas Main Center. The tower has since had five other names in concert with multiple bank mergers.
