A former Sears at Lake Success Shopping Center in North New Hyde Park has been transformed into a Target. Sears closed the longtime anchor store in 2018. Target opened its 115,000-square-foot replacement in April 2024 after a major exterior renovation. We first covered the project in July 2024, shortly after the store opened. These images document the transformation of the building from an aging Sears store into a modern Target.
In June 2018, Sears still occupied the large anchor space at Lake Success Shopping Center. The exterior remained mostly unchanged, with the familiar tan facade and prominent Sears lettering above the entrance. Although the store was nearing closure, the building still appeared fully intact and continued serving shoppers.
By October 2024, Target had completely transformed the former Sears exterior. A bold red entrance, large storefront windows, and updated gray panels replaced the older tan facade. The new store had opened several months earlier, bringing the long-vacant anchor space back into active use.
In 2018, Sears closed its Lake Success Shopping Center location in North New Hyde Park, New York, along with 58 other Sears and K-Mart locations across the United States. Target opened a new 115,000-square-foot store in the same building at 1400 Union Turnpike, east of the Union Turnpike and Lakeville Road intersection. The aerial and street images below show how the location has evolved.
