The long-awaited Trader Joe’s at 701 Monroe Street NE officially opened on May 15, 2025. It’s part of the Monroe Street Market development, with its entrance on 8th Street NE and access to an on-site garage. This is the first of three new D.C. Trader Joe’s locations planned for 2025.
So, how has the store been received?
Shoppers Are Happy So Far
Early Yelp reviews highlight the store’s clean layout, organized shelves, and friendly staff. One customer called it “super clean and well-stocked,” while another said, “sooo excited to have a Trader Joe’s in Brookland.” Even during evening visits, shoppers noted the store was still well maintained and lines moved quickly.
Reddit users chimed in with parking tips and excitement about having a new option in the neighborhood. A few mentioned the store being a big improvement over the previous lack of walkable grocery options in the area.
It’s Already Changing the Routine
Since opening, the store has become a regular stop for Brookland residents. On social media, locals are showing off flowers, snacks, and frozen items—some saying it’s made them rethink their grocery runs entirely.
People from nearby Edgewood, Michigan Park, and Woodridge are also visiting regularly. The store’s convenient location in a walkable area with apartments and student housing nearby is already making it a high-traffic addition to the neighborhood.
