Publix has opened a new store at 11525 Carmel Commons Blvd. in Charlotte, North Carolina. The site has undergone major changes in recent years, replacing a long-standing office building with a modern grocery store.
A Look Back: What Was Here Before Publix?
For years, a vacant office building stood at this location. It was part of the Carmel Commons business district, surrounded by parking lots and office spaces. In 2016, Publix North Carolina LP purchased the property for $4.5 million with plans for redevelopment.
The office building was demolished in late 2023 to make way for a 51,477-square-foot grocery store. The site’s transformation reflects the shift in land use from office space to retail, bringing a new shopping option to the area.
What the New Publix Offers
The store includes a deli with meats, cheeses, and prepared foods, a produce section with organic and conventional fruits and vegetables, and a bakery with fresh bread and desserts. The meat and seafood departments offer custom-cut selections, GreenWise chicken, and daily hand-rolled sushi. There is also a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru.
Shoppers can use Instacart for grocery delivery or take advantage of catering services for event planning. The store aims to provide a range of grocery and pharmacy options for local residents.

The redevelopment of this site brings a different use to the area, replacing an underutilized office building with a grocery store that serves daily needs. It is part of a broader trend of commercial redevelopment, repurposing older properties to fit changing consumer demands.
