A New Target Will Open in South Carolina: This is The Location

A new 148,000-square-foot Target is under construction at 5345 Crossridge Blvd in Lancaster County, South Carolina. The store is part of the larger CrossRidge Center development, which includes additional retail, office space, and community facilities. Though the building appears nearly complete, an official opening date has not yet been announced. Target’s corporate site confirms the location but offers no timeline beyond “coming soon.”

The project adds a significant retail footprint to the growing Indian Land area and reflects the continued expansion of Charlotte’s suburban edge.

From Forest to Foundation: A Look Back at the Site’s History

Just a decade ago, the entire site was dense woodland. Historical imagery from June 2015 shows the 5345 Crossridge Blvd area as untouched forest, surrounded by only light development along US-521. By late 2023, site clearing and grading began. A network of internal roads started to form by early 2024, and heavy construction followed. Imagery from December 2024 shows the main Target structure already in place, with paved parking lots and surrounding retail pads under construction. The transformation is stark. What once was a forest is now a grid of commercial blocks, parking, and future infrastructure.

By 2024, the forest is gone—roads are paved, and Target’s massive new structure anchors a growing retail district.

What’s Planned for CrossRidge Center

The Target store is the primary anchor of the CrossRidge Center, a mixed-use development spanning retail, office, and civic space.

Key components include:

  • Target: Approx. 148,000 sq. ft., centrally located
  • YMCA facility: Already completed north of Target
  • 120,000 sq. ft. Class A office: Planned west of the site
  • 200,000 sq. ft. of future retail: Outlined in several phases
  • Outparcels: Lining Highway 521 and Parkway Drive, likely for restaurants or services
  • Planned residential: Townhomes expected near the southeastern edge

The internal road network includes WorldReach Drive, CrossRidge Blvd, and Parkway Drive, creating a full loop through the site with access from Highway 521.

As of March 2025, Target construction looks nearly finished, and nearby buildings are well underway. Early retail tenants could begin opening later this year, but the Target timeline remains unconfirmed.
