New Costco Opening in Napa: Here is How The Area Has Evolved

Napa is gearing up for the grand opening of its first Costco in the southern part of the city, near the Napa River. This development marks a significant milestone for the community. The new Costco is being constructed on a site that previously housed a pipe manufacturing company, which ceased operations in 2004.

The new Costco will span 157,417 square feet and will include a 14,000-square-foot gas station, providing ample space and convenience for shoppers. Additionally, a mixed-use development called Riversound is emerging in the vicinity. This development will feature approximately 945 new homes, with a portion designated for affordable housing.

Historical aerial images show that the area was a swampy floodplain in the 1940s, before it transformed into an industrial zone. During that era, the Napa River was redirected, a change evident in the aerial photographs from the time.
