The First Homesense in Tennessee Will Open at This Popular Shopping Center

Homesense will officially open its first Tennessee store on May 1, 2025, inside The Avenue Murfreesboro. Located at 2615 Medical Center Parkway #1200, the new location will operate from 8 AM to 10 PM on opening day. The store measures 25,625 square feet and sits along one of Murfreesboroโ€™s busiest commercial corridors. Surrounded by national retailers, restaurants, hotels, and neighborhoods, the site is part of a growing retail zone just off Interstate 24.

Homesense is owned by The TJX Companies, which also operates HomeGoods, Marshalls, and T.J. Maxx. The chain offers a wide range of home furnishings and dรฉcor, including large furniture, lighting, rugs, wall art, and seasonal finds. While similar to HomeGoods, Homesense locations tend to be larger and carry expanded categories, often appealing to customers looking for statement pieces and frequent new inventory. The brand first entered the U.S. market in 2017 and continues to grow in high-traffic shopping areas nationwide.

What Stood Here Before

For years, this space was home to Bed Bath & Beyond, one of the original big-box anchors at The Avenue. The store remained a reliable destination for home goods until the early 2020s, when the company began closing hundreds of locations across the country. Once Bed Bath & Beyond shut down, the space remained empty for much of the year, occasionally reused by Spirit Halloween during the fall months.

Despite minor signage changes, the exterior remained mostly unchanged during the vacancy period. That shifted in late 2024 when construction crews began interior remodeling work for the upcoming Homesense location. By early 2025, the site had been fully transformed with a refreshed layout, new signage, and design touches that fit the brandโ€™s off-price home dรฉcor style.

From Farmland to Retail Hub

This section of Murfreesboro looked completely different just a few decades ago. Aerial photos from 1959 show the site as open farmland, with no visible roads or structures nearby. Even by 1987, the area remained mostly rural with scattered development to the north and east. That started to change in the early 2000s as Murfreesboro expanded westward and new infrastructure opened access to this part of town.

By 2006, the land had been cleared for development, and construction on The Avenue Murfreesboro was underway. Aerial imagery from 2007 shows a full transformation, with visible rooftops, large parking areas, and commercial buildings already in place. Today, the site has become a major shopping destination for Rutherford County and continues to attract new tenants like Homesense.

Bed Bath & Beyond was still operating at The Avenue in 2019, years before the space transitioned to Homesense.
