A new ALDI grocery store is set to open this week at 2400 East Main Street in Russellville. The company has confirmed a public “sneak peek” beginning December 10, followed by the official grand opening on December 11. With construction wrapping up, Russellville is days away from getting its first ALDI location.
The project replaces a longtime commercial parcel that has seen several different uses over the decades. What’s opening now is a ground-up retail build, not a remodel of an older structure.
Opening Timeline
ALDI’s sneak peek on December 10 functions as a soft opening. Shoppers will be able to enter the store, purchase groceries, and use regular checkout lanes, though hours may be limited. The full grand opening, with standard operating hours, follows on December 11.
What Was Here Before
Historic aerial imagery from the 1930s shows the property as undeveloped land. By the early 1980s, the site hosted small, loosely arranged commercial or auto-related structures rather than a unified retail development.
Street View imagery indicates the lot was largely cleared again by 2007. By 2019, the property was occupied by Whitson Morgan, a used vehicle dealership with a paved lot and small building facing East Main Street. That use has since been removed.

The property was operating as the Whitson Morgan used car dealership, with a paved lot and permanent sales building fronting East Main Street.
From For-Sale Land to New Retail
Before redevelopment, the 2.46-acre parcel was marketed on LoopNet as commercial land with significant frontage along East Main Street. The listing highlighted traffic counts and access, positioning the property as a strong retail candidate.
The current ALDI replaces that patchwork history with a permanent, purpose-built grocery store.
Why This Matters for Russellville
East Main Street is one of Russellville’s primary commercial corridors. ALDI’s arrival adds a national grocery chain to the area and introduces a new low-cost shopping option for local residents.
With doors opening this week, this project marks the most substantial and cohesive use of the site to date.
