New Aldi Coming to Former Hy-Vee Site in Moline, Illinois

Construction and Transition

Hy-Vee opened here in the early 1990s, operating for years as a major grocery anchor alongside Target, Kohl’s, and Hobby Lobby. After Hy-Vee closed, the building remained unused until Aldi committed to redeveloping it. Aldi will occupy only a portion of the structure, with the remaining space expected to house additional tenants.

Location History

Historic imagery highlights the site’s evolution. In 1958, this stretch of Moline was farmland. By 1994, the Hy-Vee building had already been constructed, marking the area’s growth into a retail hub. A 2011 street view shows the store still branded as Hy-Vee. Today, Aldi is preparing to take over, bringing a fresh use to the familiar building.
