Illinois’ New Costco Is Almost Here — And It’s Been a Long Time Coming

For years, that big empty field at Veterans Parkway and Countryside Parkway looked like it was waiting for something. Now we know what it was waiting for — Costco. The massive warehouse store is finally taking shape, with an official opening date set for Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Construction Taking Shape

What used to be farmland is now a sea of concrete, steel, and parking lot lights. Crews have been busy on the site since early 2024, and by late summer 2025, the frame was already up. A “Coming Soon” trailer parked on Veterans Parkway confirmed what residents had been guessing for months.

The new store sits at the northwest corner of E Veterans Parkway and E Countryside Parkway, right across from the Super 8 and Goodwill. It’s hard to miss now — even Google Maps lists it as “Costco Wholesale – Yorkville,” showing it as temporarily closed until the grand opening this fall.

2017 – The site along US-34 was still wide-open farmland with a clear view across the fields toward Yorkville’s growing east side. Aside from nearby roads and a few commercial pads, this corner remained untouched for decades.

From Cornfields to Big Boxes

Scroll back a few decades, and this area looked completely different. Historic aerial photos from 1952 show nothing but open farmland. For most of Yorkville’s history, this stretch of land was just a quiet edge of town. Then came Menards, Goodwill, and a few hotels, turning Veterans Parkway into a shopping corridor that keeps growing west.

The Costco marks the final piece of that puzzle — the kind of store that signals Yorkville has officially arrived as a regional shopping stop.

2025 – The same view now shows the Costco warehouse rising from the ground, surrounded by construction crews, equipment, and fresh pavement. What was once a quiet field is now one of Yorkville’s most anticipated openings.

A Small Mix-Up Along the Way

If you’ve seen Costco’s official page, you might have noticed it lists the address as 961 Erica Lane — a spot miles away in Kendall Marketplace. Don’t drive there looking for bulk toilet paper. The real store is located farther west, at 8906 Walter Payton Memorial Highway, where the cranes and concrete tell the real story.
