It’s official—Big Spring, Texas has a new stop for travelers. A Love’s Travel Stop recently opened at 1801 I-20, offering drivers gas and diesel stations, a Dunkin’, and an Arby’s. Google currently lists the location with a 4.0-star rating, with early visitors noting the convenience of the new site.
The stop joins the growing number of Love’s locations along West Texas highways, giving truckers and families another option for fuel, food, and essentials.
From Ramada Inn to Prison to… a Love’s?
The site has quite a history. Built in the 1960s, it began as a Ramada Inn that served highway travelers during the early growth of I-20. In 1989, the hotel was repurposed into the Big Spring Correctional Center’s Interstate Unit, which at one point housed up to 417 inmates.
After the prison closed in 2016, the property sat vacant until 2023, when demolition finally cleared the site. Now, the land has come full circle—returning to its roots as a place for road travelers, though in a very different form.

What’s Next?
With the new Love’s now open, the location is expected to become a major stop along I-20. Beyond fuel, drivers can grab coffee from Dunkin’ or a quick meal from Arby’s before heading back on the road.
As reviews continue to come in, it will be worth watching how travelers rate the newest addition to Big Spring’s highway corridor. For now, it marks another step in the ongoing transformation of a property that’s seen many uses over the past 60 years.
