Plano’s Chick-fil-A Moved Months Ago — Here’s How the New Location Is Doing

After operating at 1909 Preston Road for nearly three decades, the well-known Chick-fil-A near the Preston and Highway 121 intersection in Plano has officially closed. But instead of leaving the area, it simply crossed the road.

The new location, now open at 5040 W. Park Blvd, replaces the former Luby’s Cafeteria, which closed earlier in 2024 after serving the area since the mid-1990s. That site has been completely transformed into one of the most modern Chick-fil-A buildings in North Texas.

What Happened to the Old Location?

The original Chick-fil-A, just off the southeast corner of Preston Road and SH 121, had become a local landmark. It first opened in the mid-to-late 1990s and maintained steady business for decades. But by 2024, the store was showing its age—small dining room, limited parking, and drive-thru congestion.

  • Chick-fil-A closed that location in early November 2024.
  • As of July 2025, the old site is still standing but inactive, with no current signs of demolition.
  • It sits within a busy retail corridor that could see redevelopment, but there’s been no formal announcement yet about its next use.

What Customers Are Saying

In the weeks since the move, the new location has racked up dozens of reviews across Google and Yelp. Most focus on improved efficiency and layout:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Much better traffic design. I used the app and picked up in under 3 minutes.”
⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Clean, fast, and organized. Parking is tight when it gets packed, though.”
⭐⭐⭐ “Still good service, but I miss the old store’s quieter vibe.”

Others note the visibility from Park Blvd makes this new store feel more accessible, especially for shoppers already heading to H-E-B or nearby banks and retailers.

Chick-fil-A Now Stands Where Luby’s Used to Be

Across the street, the former Luby’s Cafeteria at 5040 W. Park Blvd closed in April 2024, ending its 30-year run. The new Chick-fil-A officially opened its doors in mid-November 2024, just a few days after the original store shut down.

The location is directly across from the new H-E-B, within Plano’s high-traffic Park & Preston area. It’s part of a broader commercial refresh that includes the neighboring Promontory at Preston development.
