Rochester-based Abbott’s Frozen Custard opened its first Lubbock location at 11112 Slide Road in the summer of 2024. The project, built on a 0.84-acre lot across from the UMC Health and Wellness Hospital, added a small 1,200-square-foot shop with a drive-thru and patio to the growing retail corridor in southwest Lubbock.
Construction began in late October 2023 and wrapped up by April 2024, with a grand opening celebration held on July 27, 2024. Since then, Abbott’s has become a recognizable dessert stop in the area, but the reception has been mixed.
A Year Later: How Are the Reviews?
As of mid-2025, the location holds a 3.3-star average across nearly 90 reviews on Google and Birdeye. Some customers praise the custard quality, range of flavors, and laid-back outdoor setup with games and shaded seating.
Others have called out slow service, high prices, and inconsistent product quality. Yelp reviewers mentioned melted custard, incorrect orders, and awkward customer service experiences—issues that have deterred repeat visits for some.
Another Site in the Works?
A second Google pin marks a location near 173rd Street and Milwaukee Avenue, but that lot remains undeveloped. It may be a future site, or simply a placeholder with no official timeline.
For now, 11112 Slide Road remains the only operational Abbott’s in Lubbock. Whether the franchise works out its service issues or expands further into the city is something to keep watching.
