Trader Joe’s is officially opening a store in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It will be located at 115 Sayebrook Parkway within Sayebrook Town Center, a growing shopping destination anchored by Target. This announcement marks a major win for locals, many of whom have spent years hoping for a Trader Joe’s along the Grand Strand.
The store will occupy approximately 13,000 square feet and is part of a $1.7 million construction project. No official opening date has been released, but the site is listed as “Coming Soon” on the company’s website. When it opens, this will be the fifth Trader Joe’s in South Carolina, joining locations in Columbia, Greenville, Mount Pleasant, and Charleston.
Sayebrook Town Center sits near the intersection of Highway 17 and Dick Pond Road, offering easy access for shoppers from Myrtle Beach and nearby Surfside Beach. The retail complex includes national brands, restaurants, and a large parking lot designed to support heavy foot traffic.
From Wooded Land to Retail Destination
Back in 1951, this stretch of Myrtle Beach was untouched forest with no visible roads or structures. Even by 2011, the land showed only signs of partial clearing, with a network of dirt roads laid out in a grid pattern. It appeared to be a subdivision or retail project that never fully took off.
Things changed quickly by 2013. Sayebrook Town Center was built from the ground up, transforming the once-wooded site into a retail hub. Target opened as the anchor tenant, joined by paved roads, a retention pond, and new infrastructure. The area rapidly became one of the busiest shopping zones in southern Myrtle Beach.
Today, the center features stores like Ulta Beauty, Kirkland’s Home, and national dining chains. The grocer will further boost the site’s draw, especially for residents looking for a unique grocery option with specialty items not found in traditional supermarkets.

Trader Joe’s Expands Its Reach in the Palmetto State
Trader Joe’s began in California during the 1960s and has since grown into a beloved national grocery chain. Known for its house-brand products, quirky packaging, and customer-friendly prices, the store has developed a strong following across the U.S.
In South Carolina, Trader Joe’s has opened locations slowly and strategically. Myrtle Beach was one of the last major cities along the coast without one. That’s now changing, as this long-requested location becomes a reality.
Once complete, Trader Joe’s will likely draw customers from across Horry County. Its location next to Target and just minutes from Highway 17 positions it to serve both local shoppers and seasonal visitors looking for quality groceries in a familiar brand.
