A Massive New Target Is Coming to Arizona—But Where Exactly?

The northeast corner of Verrado Way and Interstate 10 in Buckeye, Arizona, west of Glendale,
is about to become a lot busier. A new Target store measuring approximately 148,000 square feet is planned as part of the massive Verrado Marketplace project. This site, once just an empty desert, will soon anchor a regional retail destination featuring restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues.

Backed by Vestar, the same developer behind Tempe Marketplace and Desert Ridge, this $275 million development is expected to open in 2026, offering a modern layout with a central lawn, splash pad, and national retailers lining the walkable plaza.

From Raw Desert to Retail Core

The site hasn’t seen much activity over the past few decades. Aerial images from 2003 show early roadwork and a couple of utility pads, but no major infrastructure. Fast forward to 2024, and while the lot remains undeveloped, the long-anticipated transformation is underway.

The new shopping center will be built directly across from Costco, which opened in 2023, completing what now looks like the makings of Buckeye’s future commercial hub. A recent leasing trailer and on-site signage confirm that the Verrado Marketplace branding is no longer just a concept.

Target Leads the Way, but There’s More

According to the site plan, Target (labeled as “Major F”) will be joined by national chains like Marshalls, Ross, HomeGoods, and Safeway. Entertainment is also part of the plan, with a Harkins BackLot bringing a luxury movie theater, bowling alley, arcade, and sports bar under one roof.

Other incoming names include Shake Shack, Handel’s Ice Cream, and Salt Tacos + Tequila, according to AZ Big Media. The developers are also promoting eco-conscious features through their GreenStar program, promising a mix of sustainability and convenience.
