This Houston, Texas Taco Bell Will Be Rebuilt Soon

A brand-new Taco Bell will soon rise at 904 S Wayside Drive in Houston. The existing restaurant will be demolished and replaced with a newly constructed 2,089-square-foot building. Construction is expected to begin in July 2025 and finish by December of the same year.

This rebuild is part of a growing wave of Taco Bell upgrades across the Houston area. The restaurant sits just north of the Wayside Drive crossing with the Brays Bayou Greenway trail and next door to a busy Fiesta Mart.

From open land to a longtime restaurant site

The site has come a long way since the early 1950s. In 1953, aerial photos show open space with scattered trees and few structures. By 1976, the location had been built out, showing block-style buildings consistent with commercial or office development of the time.

Eventually, the current Taco Bell was constructed near the corner, taking advantage of the growing retail activity along South Wayside. The building has retained its classic southwestern-style architecture, but the upcoming demolition signals a shift to Taco Bellโ€™s more modern design language.

New layout, same location, fresh look

The upcoming Taco Bell will occupy the same footprint but offer updated amenities and a refreshed design. As part of the project, the current building will be entirely removed before new construction begins.

Once complete, the restaurant will continue serving the surrounding East End community, which includes residential neighborhoods, healthcare offices, and several major grocery and retail outlets. The project reflects a continued investment in the areaโ€™s high-traffic corridors and a commitment to meeting modern standards.
