Massive Theme Park Planned for This Oklahoma Location

The American Heartland Theme Park, a proposed $2 billion entertainment complex in Vinita, Oklahoma, is facing at least a three-year delay, pushing the opening to 2029 or later. Developers originally planned to open the park in 2026, following the debut of an adjoining RV park in 2025. As of late 2024, construction has not started.

According to a report from People.com, the delay stems from unresolved permit approvals with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Additionally, site plans are being revised to avoid floodplain zones, complicating the initial design and timeline.

Located East of Vinita Near Route 60 and Highway 82

The project spans approximately 1,000 acres in Craig County, with the selected site located at 36.634118, -95.041014, just east of Vinita and visible from U.S. Route 60. The area is largely rural, bordered by farmland and near a large industrial facility to the west.

Maps from official brochures confirm this precise location, which sits several miles southeast of the city center and Interstate 44. The site is accessible from Route 82 and lies within a short drive of the historic Route 66 corridor.

Initial plans included a 125-acre theme park, a 300-room hotel with an indoor water park, and a massive RV campground known as Three Ponies RV Park. The campground was set to feature 750 RV spaces and 300 cabins.

Aiming to Compete with Major Theme Parks

The project is being led by Mansion Entertainment Group and includes contributions from former Walt Disney Imagineers and theme park designers. Themed lands were planned to highlight Americana-style attractions, small-town nostalgia, and cultural landmarks.

Despite recent setbacks, developers have stated they remain committed to moving forward. However, financial issues have also surfaced. In mid-2024, the Canadian design firm Forrec filed a lien for $5.5 million, and Crossland Construction filed a separate claim over unpaid invoices.

The projectโ€™s website and city documents show continuing interest from stakeholders, though revised timelines and permit approvals remain unresolved as of early 2025.
