Avenir Apartments In Austin Texas
A new apartment complex named Avenir, is in the final stages of construction in the East Austin neighborhood of Austin, Texas. The building is located on the east side of Interstate-35 between East 11th and 12th Streets. Avenir is a 16-story residential tower with approximately 387 units. The University of Texas at Austin is less that a mile from the new building and so is the Texas Capitol. Before Avenir, the first campus of Samuel Huston College was in the same location and was eventually replaced in 1965 by a Safeway store. Aveinir was designed by GDA Architects and developed by Lennar Multifamily Communities and JH West 12th Street Partners.

Avenir Location History
The first Samuel Huston College campus was located on the same site from the 1890’s to 1952.
In the late 1970’s the building which was home to a CVS Pharmacy was added
The main building on the sight after was a Safeway supermarket which was later used as a Lucky Lady Bingo Hall.
The old strip mall was razed in 2019 after some controversy concerning the historic site and how the building would affect the neighborhood. Later that year construction began for the Avenir.
