SprawlTag first covered the Fairfield by Marriott in McKinney on November 10, 2020, when the hotel was still under construction on Hardin Boulevard. The hotel was planned for 1600 Hardin Blvd, near the Raytheon manufacturing complex. At the time, the project sign listed 105 rooms and pointed to a planned Summer 2021 opening.
The images below use a mix of Google imagery and SprawlTag photos to show how the site changed over time. The timeline starts in 2001, when the property was still open land. By 2020, SprawlTag images captured the hotel during its wood-framing stage. Later Google views show the finished Fairfield by Marriott operating beside nearby businesses, including the 7-Eleven next door.
In February 2001, the future Fairfield by Marriott site at 1600 Hardin Boulevard was still open land in McKinney. The image shows pasture-like acreage with tree cover nearby, long before the hotel, surrounding roads, and newer commercial growth filled in this part of the city.
This 2020 SprawlTag photo shows the Fairfield by Marriott taking shape on Hardin Boulevard. The hotel was still framed in wood, with open window bays, construction fencing, equipment, and materials spread across the site. It was still very much a work zone, with the finished hotel only beginning to show through the skeleton.
By June 2022, the Fairfield by Marriott was open and operating beside Hardin Boulevard. The hotel now shared the block with nearby commercial uses, including the 7-Eleven visible in the foreground. Compared with the open land from 2001, this view shows how the site had become part of a built-out McKinney corridor serving travelers, workers, and nearby businesses.
By October 2025, the Fairfield by Marriott had fully replaced the open field seen in 2001. The finished hotel now sits among parking lots, nearby businesses, and the growing Hardin Boulevard corridor. The tree line still visible to the east gives the image a useful contrast, showing how this part of McKinney kept a bit of its old edge even as commercial development filled in around it.
