How Costco Helped Transform An Atlanta-Area Interchange

SprawlTag first covered this Stockbridge-area Costco site on November 23, 2023. At the time, the new warehouse had just opened near Jodeco Road and Interstate 75. Costco lists the warehouse opening date as November 16, 2023. Its arrival was part of the larger Jodeco Road development, which reshaped a highly visible interchange area on the south side of metro Atlanta.

The older images show how dramatic that change was. In 2011, much of the future site was still wooded. By 2014, roadwork and land clearing had started to carve up the area for future growth. The old Chevron seen in 2015 captured the corridor before the big retail buildout took over.

By 2023, the red clay construction zone showed the project in motion. One year later, the Costco, parking lot, roads, apartments, and nearby retail pads had turned the interchange into a full suburban commercial district.

In October 2011, the future Costco area near Jodeco Road and Interstate 75 was still mostly wooded, with only scattered nearby development and road access shaping the edge of the site. The image shows how much land was still undeveloped before the larger Jodeco Road project began turning this interchange area into a major retail and commercial destination.

By October 2015, the future Costco area still had a rough roadside feel, with an old Chevron sitting near the wooded edge of the Jodeco Road corridor. The vacant-looking pavement, overgrown edges, and trees behind the station show how different the interchange area looked before the larger retail buildout reshaped the site.

By June 2023, the future Costco site had changed from wooded land and rough roadside parcels into a large red-clay construction zone. New internal roads, graded pads, equipment, and early building work show the Jodeco Road development moving from planning into full buildout, with Interstate 75 giving the project the high-visibility access that made this corner attractive for major retail.

By October 2024, the Costco and much of the surrounding Jodeco Road development were clearly in place. The huge warehouse roof, packed parking lot, new roads, nearby retail pads, and apartment buildings show how quickly this interchange shifted from wooded land and red-clay construction into a full suburban commercial district beside Interstate 75.
