A new Costco New Braunfels is rising along Interstate 35 in New Braunfels. The company plans to open the warehouse on May 15, 2026. The project sits inside the Mayfair master-planned development, a roughly 1,900-acre mixed-use project with residential, retail, and commercial space.
The site lies at 235 Kohlenberg Road, just east of I-35 near a major interchange. This location places the store directly on the San Antonio–Austin corridor, where traffic volumes remain high.
Site Transformation
Before construction began, the property contained rural land with scattered structures, dirt roads, and small ponds. No commercial infrastructure existed, and no prior grading had taken place. As a result, this project represents a full ground-up development.
Now, the site looks completely different. Crews have cleared and graded the entire property. A large rectangular pad marks the future warehouse footprint. In addition, workers have reshaped surrounding land and connected new access roads to Kohlenberg Road. The scale of grading extends well beyond the building, which signals future retail pads and additional development.
Project Details
- Building size: about 150,000–160,000 square feet
- Fuel station: expected 30+ pumps, including diesel
- Employment: roughly 200–250 jobs
- Role: anchor tenant for the Mayfair development
The warehouse will include Costco’s standard layout. Shoppers can expect a food court, pharmacy, optical center, tire center, and expanded grocery sections.
Location Impact and Timeline
This project brings the first Costco to New Braunfels. As a result, local residents will no longer need to drive to San Antonio or Kyle. At the same time, the I-35 location will attract regional traffic from both directions.
Construction has already moved through clearing, grading, and pad preparation. Crews have also installed key access roads. Based on current progress, the project remains on track for its May 2026 opening.
