California’s New Mixed-Use District in Elk Grove

A major redevelopment is underway in Elk Grove, California, where a 20-acre site along Elk Grove Boulevard will soon be transformed into a new mixed-use district called Project Elevate. The city selected developer CenterCal Acquisitions to take over the property, which sits next to District56 and the Civic Center complex.

City records show the project includes retail, dining, and entertainment space, along with a hotel and a large public plaza. The plan also reserves flexible space for offices or housing, depending on future market conditions. Construction could begin as early as 2027 once the design and entitlement process is complete.

Timeline: From Farmland to the Heart of Elk Grove’s Future

May 1993 – The site was still farmland with open fields stretching across Elk Grove Boulevard. Residential growth had just begun nearby, and the area had no civic buildings or major roads connecting it to the rest of the city.

April 2025 – The property now shows heavy grading and early construction activity. Roads, utilities, and foundation work outline the next phase of development. Surrounded by homes, auto dealers, and the Civic Center, this lot is one of the city’s last large infill opportunities.

About Project Elevate

Project Elevate will add more than 100,000 square feet of shops, restaurants, and gathering spaces to central Elk Grove. The plan also calls for a 100-room boutique hotel and nearly 950 parking spaces. With its location at 8200 Elk Grove Boulevard, the project is designed to become a walkable destination that connects nearby neighborhoods with the city’s expanding civic district.
