Goodwill Southern California opened its new retail store and donation center at 41501 Margarita Road in Temecula back in February 2025. The opening weekend featured giveaways and discounts, but community feedback since then has been mixed.
Construction and Opening
Goodwill announced the Temecula store early in 2025, with a three-day grand opening held from February 7 to 9. The location brought new retail activity to previously vacant space near the Promenade Temecula mall, continuing Goodwill’s regional expansion.

Location
The store is positioned along Margarita Road beside one of the city’s largest retail hubs. This area has seen consistent growth since the late 1990s, and Goodwill’s move into the corridor reflects its strategy of repurposing vacant storefronts in busy commercial zones.
Reception
Eight months after opening, the Temecula Goodwill holds a 2.4-star Google rating from 21 reviews. Some shoppers appreciate the convenience of having another thrift option, but many reviews cite issues with store organization, pricing, and donation drop-off experiences. The low score makes this one of the more controversial new store openings in the region this year.

A Site Transformed Over the Decades
The location’s transformation is a testament to Temecula’s rapid development. Historical aerial images show that in 1938, the site was primarily farmland with natural streams and dirt paths. By 1996, some structures had begun to appear, though much of the surrounding area remained undeveloped.
The late 1990s saw a major shift with the opening of Promenade Temecula on October 27, 1999. This shopping mall became a regional hub, attracting shoppers from across Riverside County. Over time, retail and commercial spaces expanded around the mall, leading to the construction of 41501 Margarita Rd.
